The set of DIY cardboard play spaces answer needs defined after extensive user research in homes and daycares, and reviewing pedagogic literature on children between ages 3 to 6: Privacy, interaction, creativity, collaboration, self-expression, learning. Each space only requires one cardboard box to build, except for the train, which requires one box per child.

User research focused on children’s interest in toys and ability to comprehend. Revisions were made after repeated testing sessions with children and caretakers.
